For this year's flypast to mark the Queen's Birthday, I decided to head for somewhere different as the images in the centre of town didn't really produce anything of note in my mind. Having been told of a place just to the south of the Polish War Memorial, I decided that this would be my choice for the afternoon. At the appointed time, the lead jet formation (the BBMF, Hercs and King Airs had peeled of over central London) appeared in perfect skies. The remaining elelemnts trailed past shortly before heading north and on to Halton and Brize Norton.

  • Leading this part of the flypast was this formation of 9 Typhoons from RAF Coningsby.

  • Next it was a VC trailing it's fuel hoses ahead of a Sentry and flanked by a pair of Tornado F3s.

  • The same formation turns north.

  • Then 9 Tornado F3s from Leuchars.

  • The C-17 was in formation for the first time this year - another pair of F3s provide the wingmen.

  • A Nimrod flanked by a pair of Tornado GR4s.

  • Next it was a Tristar KC1 with 2 HS125 CC3s from Northolt.

  • Finally, the impressive sight of 16 Tornado GR4s brought up the rear.
