Some unseasonally mild weather coupled with stunning blue winter skies drew me to the Thames for my latest attempt at long exposure night shots. I started at the London Assembly and Tower Bridger and followed the river westwards until I reached the London Eye. What I should've done, of course, was to walk along the South Bank as it's about half the distance! But, it was great fun and a chance to use my Gorillapod for the first time. (It's not an optical illusion - the first three shots were took at sunrise on the Grand Union Canal. It was a long old slog of a day!)

  • Not a drop of wind to disturb the crystal glass-like surface of the Grand Union Canal.

  • Grand Union Canal

  • Grand Union Canal

  • The unusual design of the London Assembly's new City Hall building.

  • Tower Bridge as the sun sets during the 'Golden Hour'

  • Tower Bridge

  • Looking west from Tower Bridge to London Bridge with HMS Belfast on the left.

  • What night shooting is all about - blurred lights!

  • Looking acroos from Tower Bridge to City Hall and Southwark Cown Court.

  • The Tower of London.

  • More fun with the traffic at Tower Bridge.

  • Tower Millenium Pier and a very blue HMS Belfast. Pity the old battleship isn't better lit, really.

  • Tower Bridge looking all blue and moody.

  • Lower Thames St behind the Old Billingsgate Market is one of many diversions away from the river bank.

  • London Bridge with the top of Southwark Cathedral in the distance.

  • The infamous once-wobbly Millennium Bridge with the dome of St Paul's Cathedral behind the City of London School.

  • St Paul's again with Blackfriars Bridge to the right of the picture.

  • Looking towards the Savoy hotel. Someone is making a sand sculture of the three wise monkeys on the river bank.

  • Another view of St Pauls and Blackfriars.

  • London Eye.

  • A special installation at the base of the London Eye to mark the forthcoming Valentine's Day.

  • London Eye and County Hall to the left.
