A selection images from 'outside the wire' in Afghanistan. Mostly taken from transiting Chinooks between Kandahar and the three forward bases in Helmand. What they show is the desolate, barren land which dominates large parts of the south of Afghanistan. Contrast this with the mountainous areas of the north, images of which were taken from various Hercules' en route between Kandahar and Kabul.
